Calculate Your Bio Base Dose
Bio Base Dosing by System
TRITON Bio Base provides the organic supplement that drives biological activity across all supplementation methods. Choose the tab that matches your system to calculate the correct daily dose.
Core7 Based Dosing
For Core7 Reef Supplements & Base Elements users
Your Core7 3A
Bio Base Dose
Insert value of Core7 solution 3A daily dose in ml
Bio Base Daily Dose
—ml
Dosage can be increased if visible benefits are observed, however must not exceed 5 ml per 50 ml Core7 dose.
Calcium Reactor Based Dosing
For calcium reactor systems
TRITON Bio Base
Measured volume of effluent in 24 hours in ml
Bio Base Daily Dose
—ml
Dosage can be increased if visible benefits are observed, however must not exceed 1 ml per 1,500 ml CaRx effluent.
Non-TRITON Products
For Balling, DIY salts, or other supplementation systems
TRITON Bio Base
Total water volume of your system in litres
Measured drop in dKH over 24 hours with no dosing
Bio Base Daily Dose
—ml
Start with the calculated dose and adjust over 2–4 weeks. Observe refugium algae growth and coral response to determine the optimal dose for your system.
“Bio Base delivers the organic substances that feed the biological engine of your reef. It’s not about reducing nutrients — it’s about creating the conditions where biology does the work for you.”
Ehsan Dashti, CEO of TRITON Applied Reef BioscienceWhat Is TRITON Bio Base?
Organic Substances That Fuel Biological Activity
TRITON Bio Base is an organic supplement designed to power biological activity in your reef aquarium. It supports the microorganisms that naturally establish in new systems — such as copepods and amphipods — forming the foundation of the TRITON Method’s biological approach to biodiversity and stability. Available in standard and ULNS versions to suit systems across all nutrient levels.
Fuels biological activity — Provides the organic substances that beneficial microorganisms such as copepods and amphipods need to thrive.
Two versions available — Bio Base for standard reef systems, and Bio Base ULNS for ultra-low nutrient systems that require no organic carbon dosing. Both use the same calculator.
Works with any system — Core7, Calcium Reactors, Balling, DIY salts. One product, universal compatibility across all supplementation methods.
Research-driven formula — Developed from data collected across 500,000+ ICP-OES water analyses and refined through ongoing Great Barrier Reef field research.
Practical Guidance
Getting the Most From Bio Base
Bio Base works best when dosed consistently and adjusted based on observable results. Choose the right version for your nutrient level, start with the calculated dose, and let your reef’s biology respond over 2–4 weeks before making changes.
Which Version Do I Need?
Bio Base is an organic supplement designed as a source of biological fuel for most reef aquariums. It is suitable for systems with moderate nutrient levels that benefit from enhanced biological filtration and microbial activity.
Bio Base ULNS is a specialised version for ultra-low nutrient systems (NO₃ < 9 mg/L). If nitrate and phosphate levels are already very low and the goal is to maintain ultra-low nutrient conditions, ULNS is the appropriate choice.
Both products use the same dosage calculator.
When to Adjust Dosage
Start with the calculated dose and observe your system for 2–4 weeks. Signs that Bio Base is working include:
- Refugium and main tank showing increased microfauna (copepods & amphipods)
- Nitrate and phosphate levels stabilising
- More vibrant coral coloration
Increase gradually if no effects are visible.

Use the Core7 tab if you dose TRITON Core7 Reef Supplements or Core7 Flex Base Elements — enter your daily Core7 3A dose. Use the Calcium Reactor tab if your alkalinity and calcium are provided by a calcium reactor — enter your 24-hour effluent volume. Use the Non-TRITON Products tab if you use any other supplementation system (Balling, DIY salts, or other brands) — enter your tank volume and measured dKH drop over 24 hours.
Yes — the calculated value is a starting point. You can increase the dosage if you do not observe visible benefits such as refugium and main tank showing increased microfauna (copepods & amphipods), nitrate and phosphate levels stabilising, or more vibrant coral coloration. However, each system type has a maximum limit: 5 ml per 50 ml Core7 dose, or 1 ml per 1,500 ml CaRx effluent. We do not recommend dosing more than the maximum limit.
Turn off all alkalinity supplementation (dosing pumps, calcium reactor, etc.) and measure your aquarium’s dKH. Wait 24 hours, then measure again. The difference between the two readings is your dKH drop over 24 hours. This value represents your system’s alkalinity consumption, which the calculator uses to determine the appropriate Bio Base dose.
Biological Filtration Starts With Data
An ICP-OES analysis reveals your reef’s nutrient levels and trace element balance at parts-per-billion precision. Use it to verify your Bio Base dosage is effective — or to identify what else your reef needs.
